This privacy policy describes how Oolel Maps ("Oolel Maps", "we") collects, uses, shares, and protects users' personal data when they visit the info.oolelmaps.com and developer.oolelmaps.com websites, when they use the Oolel Maps and Oolel Driver mobile applications, and when they access mapping, navigation, geolocation, ride, and, where applicable, the associated developer services.

If specific terms apply to certain services, features, or platforms — in particular the mobile application, the developer area, or certain B2B offerings — they supplement this policy.

1. Controller and scope

This policy applies to all processing of personal data carried out by Oolel Maps in connection with its websites, its mobile applications (Oolel Maps and Oolel Driver), and related services, including contact forms, user accounts, driver accounts, developer accounts, audience measurement tools, technical logs, cookies, geolocation services, navigation features, and ride services.

For the purposes of this policy, the terms "user", "you", and "your" refer to any person who visits the sites, uses the mobile application, or interacts with Oolel Maps services.

2. Data collected

2.1 Data provided directly by the user

The following data may be collected when you create an account, fill out a form, or voluntarily use a feature of the Oolel Maps services:

  • Identification and contact information: last name, first name, username, email address, preferred language, and hashed password.
  • Account and profile information: profile picture, display preferences, navigation settings, favorites, or other preferences linked to the Oolel Maps account.
  • Driver application data (Oolel Driver): phone number, driving-licence number, vehicle make, model, year, registration plate, and seat count, together with copies of the documents required to drive on the platform — identity card, driving licence, vehicle registration, and insurance certificate — which are reviewed by Oolel staff before a driver account is approved.
  • Exchanged content: messages submitted through a contact form, support requests, comments, content reports, or survey responses.
  • Contributed map content: addresses, places, businesses, points of interest, edits, photos, and edit suggestions you submit to improve the map. These contributions are linked to your account and, once validated, become part of the publicly accessible map.
  • Developer-area data: name or business name, role, professional email address, developer ID, API keys, billing or payment information where applicable.

2.2 Data collected automatically on the sites and in the app

When you browse the sites or use the Oolel Maps mobile application, certain data is collected automatically to ensure the operation, security, and improvement of the services.

Such data may include:

  • Technical data: IP address, browser type and version, operating system, device type, device model, technical identifiers, application version, and session identifier.
  • Log data: pages or screens viewed, date and time of access, referring URL, duration of visit, performance, technical errors, and crash logs.
  • Feature-usage data: address search, map viewing, route calculation, favorites, navigation activation, or interactions with the mapping services.
  • Edit-history data: for contributions and edits to map content, we retain a versioned audit trail (including the change itself, the author's account ID, IP address, user agent, and timestamp) to support moderation, rollback, and abuse prevention.
  • Cookies and similar technologies on the websites: strictly necessary cookies, audience-measurement cookies, personalization cookies, and, where applicable, third-party cookies.

2.3 Location and navigation data

If you enable geolocation features, Oolel Maps may process approximate or precise location data from your device, depending on the permissions granted and your device settings.

Such data may include:

  • The current position of the device.
  • The start and end points of a route.
  • Intermediate waypoints, trips taken, and navigation requests.
  • Ride locations: the pickup and drop-off points of a trip, the route driven and, for drivers, the position of the device while the driver is online and during a trip.
  • Map search queries, such as addresses, points of interest, and places viewed.
  • Shared routes and locations: if you share a route or location using the share feature, the origin, destination, and any waypoints are encoded into a public link that anyone with the link can view.

Geolocation data is personal data, because it can allow a person to be identified or their movements inferred.

2.4 Mobile app permissions

On mobile, the application may request access to certain device features, only when necessary for the requested service.

Depending on the features activated, this may include:

  • Location, to display your position, guide navigation and, in Oolel Driver, receive nearby ride requests. Oolel Driver additionally requests background ("Always") location so that ride requests keep arriving and the rider keeps seeing the driver approach while the screen is locked. Background collection only runs while the driver is online and stops as soon as the driver goes offline.
  • Push notifications, to send service-related alerts or information.
  • Camera and photo library, if you use a capture or visual reporting feature or, in Oolel Driver, to photograph and attach the documents required for your application.
  • Storage, if you save, import, or export certain content.

Access to these permissions can be granted, limited, or denied through your device settings, and some permissions can be disabled without fully preventing use of the application, depending on the features concerned.

2.5 Developer and API-usage data

When you use developer.oolelmaps.com, Oolel Maps may also collect data relating to API usage and technical services.

This may include:

  • Developer ID, organization, roles, and professional contact details.
  • API keys, request volumes, error logs, IP address of calling servers, and security indicators.
  • Contractual and billing data, where a paid plan is taken out.

2.6 Ride services data (Oolel Maps riders and Oolel Driver)

When you request a trip in Oolel Maps or carry out trips with Oolel Driver, Oolel Maps processes the data needed to connect riders and drivers, complete the trip, and handle payment, ratings, and disputes.

This may include:

  • Ride records: pickup and drop-off locations, the recommended fare, the price proposed by the rider and any counter-offer from the driver, the agreed fare, any promo code applied, the payment method, timestamps, the status of the trip, and the reason for a cancellation.
  • Information shared between rider and driver during a trip: the rider sees the driver's name, photo, vehicle make, model, and registration plate, rating, and live position; the driver sees the rider's name, pickup and drop-off points, and rating. Each party's phone number is made available to the other only for the duration of the trip so they can call each other; calls go through the phone's own dialer and are not recorded by Oolel Maps.
  • Ratings and comments exchanged after a trip, from the rider about the driver and from the driver about the rider.
  • Driver operational data: online/offline status, position updates while online (used to dispatch nearby requests and shown to the rider during a trip), acceptance and cancellation history, and the number of trips completed.
  • Driver earnings and wallet data: wallet balance, the commission deducted on each completed trip, top-up requests (amount, method, payment reference, and status), and the full transaction history.
  • Verification outcome: the approval, refusal, or suspension decision recorded by Oolel staff after reviewing a driver's documents, and the reason given.

3. Legal bases and purposes

The personal-data processing carried out by Oolel Maps relies on different legal bases, depending on context and applicable regulation.

3.1 Performance of a contract or pre-contractual steps

Some data is necessary to:

  • Create and manage your user or developer account.
  • Provide the mapping, navigation, geolocation, and API services.
  • Provide the ride services: match riders with drivers, calculate fares, share the information needed to complete a trip, and manage driver earnings and top-ups.
  • Manage the customer or developer relationship, including support, billing, and request tracking.

Such processing is based on the performance of the contract or on pre-contractual steps taken at your request.

3.2 Oolel's legitimate interests

Some processing is necessary for the legitimate interests of Oolel Maps, in particular to:

  • Ensure the security of the sites, app, accounts, and APIs, and prevent fraud, abuse, or attacks.
  • Improve the services, ergonomics, performance, and quality of mapping data through aggregated and statistical analysis.
  • Protect and defend Oolel Maps' rights in the event of a dispute, claim, or proceeding.

Such processing is carried out with due regard for your rights and freedoms, with appropriate minimization and protection measures.

3.3 Consent

Prior consent may be required for some processing, in particular non-strictly-necessary cookies or trackers, certain personalization features, sending marketing communications by email or notification, and certain non-essential uses of location.

When consent is required, it may be withdrawn at any time, without retroactive effect, through the settings provided or through device settings where applicable.

3.4 Compliance with legal obligations

Some processing may be required by law, in particular to meet accounting, tax, security, or data-retention obligations, or to respond to requests from competent authorities.

4. Cookies and similar technologies

Oolel Maps websites may use cookies and similar technologies to ensure the technical operation of the sites, measure audience, produce traffic statistics, and personalize certain features, in line with your choices and applicable regulation.

When consent is required, a banner or cookie-management module lets you accept, refuse, or configure the use of non-necessary cookies.

You can also change cookie-related settings at any time through your browser settings, subject to its capabilities.

5. Recipients and processors

Personal data may be disclosed, on a need-to-know basis, to authorized Oolel Maps staff, technical providers and hosts, analytics and error-monitoring tools, mapping, navigation, payment, mobile-money, or billing solutions (in particular to process driver wallet top-ups), as well as commercial or institutional partners where necessary for the requested service or authorized by you. In the ride services, the rider and the driver of a trip receive each other's data as described in section 2.6.

Map tile requests made from the application or website may be served through a content-delivery or tile-hosting provider, which may log technical request metadata (such as IP address and user agent) for security and abuse-prevention purposes.

Data may also be disclosed to administrative, regulatory, or judicial authorities where required by law or to defend a right in court.

Where providers act on behalf of Oolel Maps, appropriate contractual commitments govern the confidentiality, security, and compliance of processing.

6. Transfers outside your country

Data may be hosted and processed in different countries, notably where the servers, teams, or providers of Oolel Maps are located.

Where applicable regulation requires it, appropriate safeguards are put in place to frame any data transfer to a country outside your jurisdiction, for example through standard contractual clauses or other recognized mechanisms.

7. Retention periods

Personal data is retained only for the time necessary for the purposes for which it was collected, extended where applicable by legal limitation or archiving periods.

By way of indication:

  • Account data is retained as long as the account is active, then archived or deleted after a period of inactivity, subject to legal obligations.
  • When a user requests account deletion (from inside the mobile application or by email), the account enters a 30-day grace window during which the user can cancel the request by signing back in to the mobile application and tapping "Keep my account". After 30 days, the account is permanently deleted; private account data is erased, public contributions to the map are kept but stripped of attribution to the user, and a minimal audit trail is retained as required for moderation, rollback, and legal compliance.
  • Technical and security logs are retained for a limited period, as needed for security and abuse prevention.
  • Location data used for navigation is retained for the time necessary to provide the service, then deleted, anonymized, or aggregated where possible.
  • Contribution audit history (versions of edits, the identity of the contributor, and associated technical metadata) is retained for as long as the underlying map content exists, to preserve the integrity and auditability of the map.
  • Driver verification documents (identity card, driving licence, vehicle registration, insurance) are retained for as long as the driver account is active and for the period needed to demonstrate that verification was carried out, then deleted.
  • Ride records, ratings, and wallet transactions are retained for as long as needed to handle disputes, fraud prevention, and accounting obligations. A driver's live position is held only transiently while the driver is online; after a trip, only the route recorded on the ride is kept.
  • Data needed to comply with legal obligations or manage a dispute may be retained for the period required by law or until the dispute is resolved.

8. Your rights

In accordance with applicable regulation, you may, where relevant, have the following rights over your personal data: access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, objection, portability, and withdrawal of consent where the processing relies on it.

Where data has been integrated into the publicly accessible map as a community contribution, exercising the right to erasure may result in the contribution being de-linked from your account rather than fully removed, in order to preserve the integrity of the shared map.

You can exercise your right to erasure directly from the Oolel Maps or Oolel Driver mobile application by opening Settings (Oolel Maps) or Profile (Oolel Driver), tapping your profile, and selecting "Delete account". A 30-day grace window applies: during this window the account is flagged for deletion but can be cancelled by signing back in to the application and tapping "Keep my account". After 30 days, the account is permanently deleted. Ride, wallet, and accounting records that we are legally required to keep are retained after deletion. If you have lost access to your account, you can request deletion by email to contact@oolelmaps.com; see the dedicated Delete account page for the full procedure.

You may also, depending on your jurisdiction, lodge a complaint with the competent supervisory authority.

9. Data security

Oolel Maps implements appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect personal data against accidental or unlawful destruction, loss, alteration, disclosure, or unauthorized access.

These measures may include encryption, pseudonymization, access management, strong authentication, security logging, and internal backup and incident-management procedures.

Users are invited to protect their credentials, use a strong password, and log out after use on shared devices.

10. Location-specific provisions

Where the Oolel Maps application or services offer location-based features, their use may require activating certain permissions on your device.

In this context:

  • Enabling geolocation is optional when the feature is not essential to the requested service.
  • You can, depending on your device settings, authorize location only while using the app, always, or refuse it.
  • In Oolel Driver, background location is required to receive ride requests while you are online. You can stop all background collection at any time by going offline in the app, and you can withdraw the permission in your device settings, in which case ride requests are not delivered while the screen is locked.
  • You can, depending on the available settings, limit the precision of location or fully disable access to position.
  • Location data may be used to provide the requested route, improve the quality of services, or offer personalization features, subject to your choices and legal requirements.

Oolel Maps does not use automated decision-making producing legal effects concerning you based solely on profiling, unless specifically indicated otherwise and the required consents are obtained.

11. Third-party services

The sites and app may contain links to third-party sites, applications, SDKs, or services for which Oolel Maps is not responsible.

This policy does not cover the privacy practices of such third parties. It is recommended to review their own policies before sharing personal data with them.

12. Changes to the policy

This policy may be amended to reflect changes in the services, legal obligations, or Oolel Maps' data-protection practices.

In the event of a material change, the information may be communicated by any appropriate means — for example via the site, app, a notification, or an email — where required by regulation or deemed useful.
